NY’s greetings, from R. in SK, after having lost his L.

So my friend R. was in South Korea for a few hours’ layover a couple of days before the new year, and he sent me a New Year’s Day card he bought at the airport. He usually sends me postcards from the different places he visits (I have one from Latvia!), but the only postcards available had to be purchased by set, so he sent me a card instead. You know how Koreans are obsessed with cuteness? Well, this one was totally cute.

New Year's greeting card

I only got it the other day. For the past few weeks, R. had been asking me if I’d gotten the card, and we thought the airport people must’ve not posted it because R. was yelling at them earlier for having lost his luggage. Also, in the card, he wrote something that S.Koreans wouldn’t find very funny (yeah, he was really upset about his luggage). Anyway, I’m planning to go to South Korea later this year. Going to buy me a whole bunch of greeting cards for sure.

I’ve been blogging a lot this past week while I’ve been traveling. Not here, but in the private blog I share with some of my closest friends. I write about even the smallest things, and post lots of photos. Someone asked me why do I spend an hours online after getting back to the flat blogging about the day’s events, like it couldn’t wait till I get back to Manila. I said I wasn’t sure. There was something different about writing while away from home.

Then today, I mentioned to R that the only personal snail mail I ever get is the postcards he sends me while he’s abroad. Then I realized why my other friends don’t send me postcards — it’s because they write about their travels online, and post photos of what they’ve been doing and where they’ve been.

Blogs are the new postcards. Fancy that.

I’m gonna be on a boat

Leaving for Singapore later today. Yeah, it’s my first trip out of the country, it’s kinda pathetic.

Anyway, there was a mix-up with our booking, and it turns out that my return flight to Manila from Singapore was actually a Manila TO Singapore flight. Jetstar wouldn’t refund it, but they agreed to change the date. I haven’t even left for Sing yet, and I already have a ticket to go back there. Aigoo. And here I was still undecided whether I should go back there for R’s farewell party. I guess I’m going now. I’m not complaining — the party’s going to be on an effing yacht. Plane ticket to Sing, $xxx. Being there when we throw R overboard for fun, priceless.

My first trip abroad and I’m going to be traveling by myself. Also, because R is sleep-deprived, no one’s picking me up, and I have to take a cab to his place by myself. Wish me luck.
