Eating out

The Singapore brunch bunch

Finally recovered a bit from the Korean Music Wave concert last Friday night (nothing like standing in the moshpit for 5 hours to remind yourself that you’re no longer a spring chicken, and that maybe you need to go back to hitting the gym) to have brunch at Epicurious at Robertson Walk on Sunday. I had the Full Monty, below, which included beans, bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms and toast, and was served with fresh orange juice and coffee.

D had the breakfast burrito. Will try that next time.

Breakfast Burrito

Met some lovely new people who had brunch with us: D’s friends who used to live in Sing and are also visiting for the weekend. (That’s me on the left.)

Epicurious was apparently a really popular brunch place, because it had a sign that said you could only have your table for an hour and a half, and by 11.30, the place was packed. When we got there at 10.30, there were something like three unoccupied tables. It was along the river — I forgot to take a photo, sorry — and other than the people there for brunch, there were also some joggers and people riding scooters and bikes with their kids. Perfect brunch place, except D and I kept squinting because we forgot our sunglasses.

Goodbye, Singapore! Will come back as soon as D is willing to put up with me in her flat again. LOL.

There’s coffee in that nebula

I need to know how to make this thing they call “salad” at home

Dinner (sort of) at Coffee Bean the other day with T&W and W’s team. Apparently that lovely mixed green salad at Sweet Bella last Monday wasn’t enough to fulfill this weird salad craving I’ve been having these past few days. (I don’t eat salad. And I make fun of people who eat salad.) So I had this, the chinese chicken salad:

It had a sweet and sour sauce, that noodle (?) thingy, greens and sesame seeds (which, I learned from Food Tech, is crazy full of protein and really really good for ya). The salad was awesome. I haven’t eaten a lot of green salads in my lifetime, but this was the best one ever. I wish I knew how to make this at home.

Pavlova @ Bfast

After Jeiel’s birthday lunch last week in Amici, we went to Bfast for dessert. I didn’t know what to try, so Karlo suggested I try the pavlova. It didn’t look like much, especially since they didn’t add the mangoes till right before they served it, but it turned out to be amazing.

Eating out: Kogi (Eastwood)

So after going on Carlos Celdran’s fabulous Imelda Tour, F. and I met up with M. and Y. for dinner at Kogi in Eastwood. I already had a tiny sandwich from KFC earlier because I was starving, but I thought I’d have something light while they had dinner. I ordered the kimchi pancake (around PhP 130+), because it was the first time I was in a Korean restaurant that had it on their menu, and I’d always wanted to try it. It was so good! Too bad I couldn’t finish the whole pancake because I had already eaten earlier, but the guys helped finish it off.

Kogi - kimchi pancake

In true Korean fashion, it was served with some side dishes.

Kogi-side dishes

F. had the crab roll (around PhP 200). The whole roll is quite large, enough for a meal. I remembered to take a photo of it before the last piece was gone. It was also quite good. I wasn’t a fan of Korean “maki” dishes, because all the ones I’ve had were made with vegetables and were rather bland. But this one tasted like a California maki, but a bit different.

They also had Korean ice-cream sandwiches and ice pops. I had the chocolate ice-cream sandwich, but I forgot to take a photo. I wish I had more room for another dish or two, but I would have to try the other dishes next time I’m at Eastwood. The ambiance was quite nice. The interior was clean, gleaming, and brightly lit. Also, they played k-pop — but at such a low volume, I could barely make out the songs. Of course, it didn’t matter, as my friends and I talk too much over meals anyway.
