Celebrating women leaders in politics, business, science and the arts

“Women hold up half the sky.”
— ancient Chinese proverb

Women at the Top

Aung San Suu Kyi. Lady Gaga. Hilary Clinton. Wangari Maathai. Emily Abrera. In case you haven’t noticed, women have become a more powerful force in the world today. More than merely influencing business, politics, science and entertainment, they’re taking the lead in their respective industries and changing the world.

In celebration of women leaders, and to facilitate a grand exchange of ideas among women in Asia, Singapore-based marketing specialist company Arc Media Global is holding the “Women at the Top 2012″ conference on February 23-24, 2012 30-31 August 2012. Speakers at the event include top beauty and wellness magnate Dr. Vicki Belo (whose company the Belo Medical Group published two papers in two international journals, and received the Reader’s Digest award for being one of the most trusted brands in 2010), and Former First Lady and 2nd District Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Romualdez-Marcos who will give the closing keynote speech on “Millennium Development Goals in the Philippines,” which was borne out of the United Nations’ Millennium Summit in September 2000. Kick-ass nails make me better at my job, I swear

So CareerCamp is coming to Enderun Colleges tomorrow. Outfit, check. Matching purple umbrella, check. Nails?

nail art

Check.

(I did it myself, with the help of Etude House nail art I got for something like PhP80/$1.78. The nail polish was a little over PhP 90/$2 at The Face Shop. And yes, I realize I’m never going to be a hand model.)

All Enderun students are invited to this free event. Come and get real career advice from professionals in the Hotel and Restaurant business, learn how to make a kick-ass resume, and learn how to ace job interviews.

I will not be speaking (we have excellent HRM pros for that), but I will be there to distribute flyers and answer questions about the event and CareerCamp.

If you’re a student or a school administrator/staff and you’d like CareerCamp to hold a free career development event at your college or university, contact us at careercamp@bronzeage.ph or call (+63-2)692-3093.

My poker phase

So I played real poker for the first time last night. And when I say “real”, I mean a game that was not played in my Mom’s dining room, and that did not involve my 10-year-old nephew (by the way, that kid can bluff like no one’s business). It wasn’t as scary as the first time I played mahjong outside the home, actually. I’ve played mahjong long enough that I can read the tiles with just the tips of my fingers, but when it’s against hardcore gamers, everything goes really fast and it’s hard for me to keep up. Playing at that poker house, however, was not as cut-throat, and the dealer is always nice enough to tell you how much you need to call when it’s your turn.

I lost about $50, but it was a lot of fun, and I got to win one hand by bluffing my ass off. There are just some things you gotta do at least once in your adult life. (Not that I’m never doing it again. Like I said, fun.)

On the MVP-Ateneo scandal

Agreed.
